School Bus Safety Week

All road users, whether drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, or those on the school bus, have an essential part to play. It's crucial for everyone to be attentive, understand their surroundings, and adhere to traffic regulations to ensure a safe environment for all.

A key rule to remember: When a school bus displays its flashing red lights, all vehicles must come to a complete stop. Failing to do so can result in hefty fines and demerit points, according to the Highway Traffic Act. Moreover, it's illegal to overtake a school bus when it's showing its stop sign and activated red lights.

It's beneficial for parents to discuss school bus behavior with their children. Kids are encouraged to keep their bags on their laps, remain seated throughout the trip, and maintain respectful interactions with their peers. Distractions to the bus driver should be minimized.

On October 19, we're celebrating School Bus Driver Appreciation Day. The Bruce Grey Catholic District School Board wishes to share our gratitude to our bus drivers for their commitment to safely transporting students daily. Their role is pivotal, not just in daily commutes but also in other school-related activities and trips. In addition to our drivers, a big thank you goes to the monitors, bus operators, and the team at the Student Transportation Service Consortium of Grey-Bruce for their dedication.

Let's all take a moment this week to show appreciation to our bus drivers and the staff supporting them. Their efforts play a significant role in our community's safety.
